Robin Paine
Local roses
All of these watercolours of roses are depictions
of the roses which were planted in beds outside
The A-listed art-deco apartment buildings in
Edinburgh where I reside. They are quite large
paintings – 55cm x 70cm and look fantastic in a row.
Originally from the notable rose-growers of
Aberdeen, Cocker’s Roses. Planted in 1938 they
are now really old and have great gnarled roots.
Not quite in fashion these days I nevertheless
salute their longevity and the charm they add to the buildings behind them.
Mary Marshall Brown award
The Royal Society of Scottish Watercolour Painters awarded this prestigious award to Robin at a ceremony in 2023 for A forsythia bush in flower, seen here. The painting is fairly large for a watercolour

Drawings & watercolours
I have found that watercolour is an extremely unpredictable medium that cannot be entirely taught nor entirely mastered. I therefore try to start out with a humble and innocent approach.
